George James Courakos

George James Courakos of Boynton Beach, FL passed away on May 16, 2023 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kaliope, his three daughters Sandra Wyatt, Kathryn Smith, Stephanie Courakos, son James Courakos, son-in-law Tony Spavento, daughter-in-law Alina Courakos, his 13 grandchildren, Gianna Orangio, Maria Wyatt-Uhl, Kalli Courakos, John Wyatt, Bobby Smith, Alexa Smith, Christian Molina, Christopher Molina, Nathan Molina, George (GJ) Courakos, Starr Courakos, Peter Courakos, Arianna Courakos, and his six great-grandchildren Domino Uhl, David Smith, Isabella Molina, Marlie Molina, Jayde Courakos, and Phoenix Courakos.
George loved his extended family and was a beloved uncle to Carrie, Cathy, Johnny, Gail, Deanie, Maria, and many others.
George was born in Sparta, Greece on September 22, 1935 to James and Stavroula Courakos. He had seven siblings; Georgia, Pipitsia, Emmanuel, Mary, Katina, Diane, and Peter.
As soon as World War 2 ended, they left Greece and settled in New York City. George attended school in Brooklyn and enlisted in the Army in 1955 where he proudly served in the 82nd Airborne. While finishing up his tour, he met the woman who he would spend most of his life with, Kaliope Psihas. They were married on November 3, 1957.
After getting married George pursued the American dream, which took the newlyweds to New Jersey, Houston, Montreal, before going back to New Jersey and settling in Hillsdale. This is where he began his career in the automotive industry. In 1978, Kaliope talked George into following his sister and brother-in-law Maria and George to Florida. They settled in Coral Springs where they raised their family.
George and Kaliope made many lifelong friends in Florida, and George founded the AHEPA chapter in Coral Springs. He ended up working until he was 80 years old. He is a beloved husband, father, uncle, and papou.. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed.
A visitation will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home on Monday May 29th from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. A Funeral services will be held at St Mark’s Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday May 30th at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL
