Gayle Adele North, née von Plonski, September 5, 1938, was studying abroad at the University of Heidelberg in Freiburg, Germany, when she met Jerrold Martin North, a lieutenant ,1954 graduate from West Point (USMA), and knew he was to be her husband. After their marriage he chose to join the Foreign Service as a career diplomat and thus their adventures started, with extensive travel and posts in Africa, Asia and Europe. In addition to her duties as the wife of a Diplomat, organizing and hostessing dinners and events for dignitaries, Gayle also provided secretarial support to the Embassy in Bukavu (Democratic Republic of the Congo)and taught English as a second language in multiple countries. She and Jerry resumed their love for travel and learning new languages in their retirement.
After Jerry’s death Gayle moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where she continued to enjoy travel, primarily in Australasia and the Carribean, and dabbled in her longtime hobbies of painting and drawing as well as playing fierce games of Mahjong and Bridge.
Gayle was predeceased by her husband Jerrold and granddaughter Catherine. She is survived by her daughters Lore (Andrew), Linden (Kelly) and Courtney as well as her grandsons David and Christopher.
Gayle will lovingly and peacefully be laid to rest alongside her beloved Jerrold at West Point in West Point, New York.
Service and interment private.
