It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Van Newby, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 74. Born in Munich, Germany, on November 25, 1949, Gary’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and adventure.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Denise Newby; his cherished children, Arielle and Darren Newby; and his adored granddaughter, Alayia. His family was his greatest joy, and he was always there to support and guide them.
Gary retired from IBM after 30 years. He knew how important family was and wanted to keep us all in close proximity. He selflessly turned down moving out of state with the company multiple times. Without hesitation, he always put his family first.
Gary was a man of varied passions and talents. He had a profound love for music, often brightening the day with the harmonica he carried in his pocket. An adventurer at heart, he found exhilaration in hang gliding and sailing, and all of nature was his beloved retreat. His greatest joy came from sharing these experiences with his family, creating memories that will forever be treasured.
Gary was known for his infectious laughter and positive attitude. He faced life with a smile and never complained, no matter the circumstances. His joyful spirit made every moment spent with him special, and he will be remembered for his generous heart and bliss for life.
A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 AM at the Glick Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gary’s chosen charities: the SRC Deacon Fund or the Church Planting Fund at Spanish River Church, which was dear to him. Contributions will help continue their mission in transforming lives through the love of Jesus Christ. https://www.spanishriver.com/give
