Fernando Sanchez Franco Obituary

In loving memory of Dr. Fernando Sánchez Franco, we are saddened to announce his passing on April 10, 2021 in Boca Raton, Florida. He is survived by his wife, María Olga.   He was the proud father to his two daughters and their husbands  Katya Sanchez and Pablo Rabosto of Boca Raton, Florida,  and Lisa Sanchez and Marco Donadio of Duxbury, Massachusetts. He leaves behind the light of his life, his four grandchildren, Tomas, Jasmin, Mateo and Luca.

Fernando was born and grew up in Asunción, Paraguay. He was predeceased by his parents  Enrique Sanchez Dominguez and Irma Encarnación Franco Velazquez, as well as his brother Enrique Sanchez Franco and sister in law Maria Estella Ferrería. Fernando is survived by his brother Luis Sanchez Franco and his wife Ada Villalba of Asunción , Paraguay. He will be missed by his sister and brother in-laws: Maria and Emiliano Saguier of West Point, Georgia, Mabel Mercado and Guido Duarte of Asunción, Paraguay, Adelita Ortiz and Gerardo Mercado of Lambaré, Paraguay. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

He graduated from medical school in 1970 from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas. In 1971, he moved to the United States for his training at the University of Connecticut. He opened Valley Surgical Clinic in 1979 and dedicated his life as a general and peripheral vascular surgeon to the Greater Valley area.  He was an admired and respected physician at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama for twenty nine years where he served many years as chief of staff, among other leadership positions. Upon retirement, he was the recipient of the George H. Lanier Distinguished Service Award.

Paraguay was always close to his heart.  He earned the degree of professor and  dedicated many years as an adjunct professor at the medical school in Paraguay.
