Evan David Hirschensohn went to heaven on April 22nd, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, at the young age of 21. In the days leading up to his passing, he was deeply comforted and so blessed to be surrounded by many friends from every chapter of his life. Evan was brilliant, witty, kind, thoughtful, talented, funny, and beloved. He was known for his unconditional heart, beautiful singing voice, and bright smile.
Evan was wise beyond his years. Anyone who met him recognized something special in his soul and was uniquely touched by him. Evan was determined to make an impact and from the time he was a young boy, he spoke of changing the world and making it a better place. He did. We will continue to make a positive difference as we carry him with us in our daily lives. Evan inspired all of us to make each day count and to be our best selves.
Evan grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, and attended North Broward Preparatory School from age 3 to 18, carrying with him cherished memories and friendships throughout the years. He worked hard to achieve his dream of attending Northwestern University in Evanston. Evan loved Chicago for its culture, vibrancy, and eclectic energy. At Northwestern, he was a scholar studying physics, Mandarin, political science, and theater. He enjoyed performing in plays, musical theater, and a cappella, and his passion was singing and performing in numerous productions and events. Evan also took great pride in mentoring others as a Peer Advisor at Northwestern, helping orient new students to college life. He cherished his days at NU cultivating precious friendships and having a lot of fun.
Evan gave his time and heart freely and purposefully. He volunteered with Relay For Life (a cancer organization), Tomorrow’s Rainbow (a bereavement group for children that offers equine-assisted therapy), and served as an intern for Palm Beach County, conducting research related to an Everglades project and affordable housing. Evan’s friends describe him as fun, kind, and a light in every room he walked into. He was always committed to the prank, patiently waiting for the perfect moment, and he made us laugh until we could not breathe. He could deliver a single line that cracked everyone up in an instant. His humor was surprising, unfiltered, and often inappropriate. Evan noticed nuances in people and situations that others might miss, and his unique perspective was always spot-on.
Evan volunteered with the American Cancer Society, and later, he was afflicted by an aggressive and very rare cancer: extra-axial chordoma. He was incredibly brave through many chemotherapies, surgeries, and radiation. He never complained, meeting each hurdle with positivity and grit. Evan fought hard and always greeted visitors and caregivers with a warm, polite smile. His light was brighter than you could imagine and his TikToks even went viral simply because of who he was. Evan will always be remembered for his dazzling and sincere smile, twinkling blue eyes, freckles, sarcastic grin, and enviable eyebrows.
Evan is survived by his mother, Kelly; his father, Ken; his sister, Sarah; his step father, Shawn Baca, M.D., grandparents, John and Wilma Nolan, predeceased by Ann Balaban (Tom), Israel and Ennis Hirschensohn. Also survived by Aunts Debra Davis Wenner (Gary), Heather Rosemeier (Randy), Sherry Cochran, Cousins Nolan Rosemeier, Eve Greco (Brandon), Anna Rosemeier, Katherine Davis and Conner Davis. And of course, his dog, Chase. His loss brings tremendous sadness to his family, community, and friends. Evan had a very bright future and would have made many contributions to the world. Despite his young age, he was often described as a wise old soul, and countless stories have been shared about how he changed the lives of so many friends and family members. Evan was Catholic and grew very close to God at the end of his life.
“I didn’t wish for an easy life, I wished for a wild story to tell” – Evan Hirschensohn
