It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ernest Martens (Ernie), who passed away early Saturday morning, January 14, 2023 at the age of 86 years young after a brave fight with cancer. Born in Davenport, Iowa, Ernie eventually settled in and became a long-time resident of El Paso, Texas before moving the Boca Raton, Florida. He proudly served in the US Airforce and later worked for Kodak Datatape and Douglas Aircraft at White Sands Missile Range. Ernie was an active person, enjoying mountain climbing and running marathons and triathlons. He also had a passion for bowling. Known to be a good listener, Ernie was a man of few words, but loved to talk with neighbors and friends. He was also a good cook, dance partner, and skillful handyman around the house.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Armida Dagistino Martens (Armi) and her 4 children Jim Dagistino; Bill and his wife Jill Dagistino with their 4 children Matthew, Samantha, Skylar and Sidney; Ed and his wife Amy Dagistino with their 2 chldren Henry and Sadie; and Marlu and her husband Darrell Davis with their 2 children Liam and GiGi. He is predeceased by his wife Lucy, son Ernie, and daughter Cathy. His is also survived by his 4 sisters Diana, Roseann, Maria Elena, and Ginny, his brother Carl, and many nieces and nephews.
Ernie will be missed by his devoted and loving wife, family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton.
