Enrique Lavernia died on January 2, 2026 at the age of 94 in Boca Raton, Florida. He was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States with his young family when Castro took over in 1961. He lived in Illinois and practiced general medicine for 10 years, then moved to Boca Raton, Florida where he continued to practice medicine until he retired. He loved to travel, loved his family and was known for his big heart, optimism and generosity. He loved traveling the world with his wife and family and especially loved eating at good restaurants. He is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Nidia Lavernia, his father, Enrique Lavernia, his mother, Olga Suros and his sister, Maria Ortega. He is survived by his children, Nidia Chediak and Henry Lavernia, his grandchildren, Andria Chediak, Sasha Chediak and Geordan Speiller, his great grandchildren, Kyla Townsend and Tysen Townsend, and his brothers, Ivan Lavernia and Milton Lavernia and their extended families. His service will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33431 on Saturday, January 10th from 4pm-6pm. The family requests donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
