BECKER, Elwood “Eddie” Everett Becker, 93, of Wheeling, WV, died Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Eddie was a resident of Wellington, Florida since 2001.
Eddie was born in Wheeling, WV on June 14, 1932, the son of the late Harold William Becker and Azelia Pogue Bullard and the youngest of 11 siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Ann (Rahr) Becker.
Eddie lived the majority of his life in Wheeling. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mozart, graduated from Wheeling High School in 1950, and worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in downtown Wheeling.
Eddie had a focused personality and pursued goals with determination. At an early age he developed a love for the sport of basketball. He had exceptional athletic ability and his accomplishments on the basketball court established his identity during his youth. In high school as a senior in 1950 Eddie led the Wheeling High School basketball team to an undefeated 25-0 season and won the West Virginia State Championship while receiving All-Class, All-State honors. Eddie was recruited by West Virginia University and upon completion of his senior season was the second all-time high scorer in the history of the school. In 2016 Eddie was inducted into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, then on September 16, 2017 Eddie was honored and recognized by West Virginia University by induction into their Sports Hall of Fame.
On August 8, 1953, while still in college Eddie married his high school sweetheart Barbara Ann Rahr. After college Eddie joined the US Army and he and Barbara moved to Augusta, Georgia where Eddie was stationed at Fort Gordon. During his service he earned the rank of First Lieutenant. Eddie and Barbara eventually settled back in Wheeling, WV to raise their family.
Eddie and Barbara, moved to Wellington, Florida in 2001 to be near their growing family. The family owned some rental properties in Wellington Florida and Eddie took over the management of these properties.
Surviving Eddie are his two children, Rick Becker and his wife, Susan; Pam (Becker) Browning and her husband, Jeff; four grandchildren, Taylor (Browning) Tramonte and her husband, Mike; Jairus Browning and his wife, Caitlin; Nicklaus and Luke Becker; and four great grandchildren, Anthony, Gemma, Elam and Bennett.
Eddie will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, at the convenience of his family.
