E. Joy Hubbard Obituary

Edwina Joy Harbaugh Hubbard

April 24, 1931 – May 22, 2023

Edwina Joy Hubbard went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2023 at the age of 92.  Joy was raised in a committed Christian home by her parents, Paul and Carlene Harbaugh in Kings Mills, Ohio.  Joy received Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age, and dedicated her life to Christian service as a teen.

Joy graduated from high school as valedictorian in 1949 and entered Miami University of Ohio, as a History and English double major.  At Miami University, Joy met her future husband, Donald R. “Dick” Hubbard, and influenced him to go into the ministry.  Joy taught school until she became a mother, putting family first in her life.

During Dr. Hubbard’s ministry at various churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Florida, Joy was the model of a Christian pastor’s wife; supportive of Dr. Hubbard’s ministry, entertained church members and guests, and took notes of her husband’s messages. Joy eventually developed her own speaking ministry by ministering to women’s groups of all ages, mission organizations, Bible conferences, and seminars.  Joy also would return to her teaching roots through substitute teaching during the time her children were in school.

Joy had served on the Board of Managers of the Women’s Bible Society of New York, was elected Mother of the Year of New York State (1979-1980), and was a representative to the United Nations during “The Year of the Child”, which opened many doors of ministry to women.

Along with her pastor/teacher husband, Joy traveled extensively overseas on behalf of missions, teaching, training and equipping of pastors, church leaders and their wives in economically developing countries and cultures. Joy served on the Board and Council of SIM USA and was the U.S. representative on the International Board of Governors of SIM International.

In recent years Joy’s health began to wane and she had to retire from ministry.  She lived a full, rich life; and one that always put God and family first.  She is now reunited with her beloved husband and rejoicing in Heaven.

Joy is survived by four children:  Rebecca Hayes (Bob), Richard Hubbard (Lori), Robin Cameron, and Randi Waldvogel (Walter); eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one grandson, Daniel Hayes, and a son-in-law, Ross Cameron, who are waiting to greet her in Heaven.

The family requests donations to these ministries that were close to Joy’s heart in lieu of flowers:
