Durwood Paul Frazier
December 22, 1931 – December 17, 2024
Durwood “Durk” Frazier (92 years old) of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on December 17, 2024, just 5-days shy of his 93rd birthday, peacefully in his room at Artis Senior Living in Boca Raton, when his body and spirit decided that his time of giving to family, friends, and community must pass from this earthly life to a Heavenly life.
Durk was born in Vestal, New York, to Paul and Hattie Frazier where he lived his younger life with his older brother, Graydon “Stub” Frazier, who predeceased Durk several years ago in New York. Durk married and enlisted into the US Army in 1952; he was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Corporal, Technician 5th Grade at Fort Bliss, Texas. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
A few years later, Durk and his family, daughters Debra, Peggi, and Amy, moved and resided in St. Croix, a territory in the United States Virgin Islands. They enjoyed “island life,” with plenty of water activities and local experiences.
Eventually, Durk moved to Florida where he met his second wife, Doris. They were married in 1977 in Boca Raton, Florida. Durk became a general contractor, building residential homes. They continued to live in Florida, enjoying friends, volunteering in the community, and adoring grandchildren both locally and afar. They both were very involved in St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, especially with the Senior Saints ministry group.
Durk especially enjoyed fishing, taking their boat to their Ft. Myers condominium at least twice a year to meet friends and enjoy the beach-ocean activities. Once retired, Doris and Durk traveled all around the world – Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Mexico, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Durk truly embraced life with enthusiasm.
Doris predeceased Durk in 2019. Durk is survived by his daughters Debra Frazier Tonachel and Amy Frazier Adams, (daughter Peggi Frazier Johnson had predeceased many years ago), grandchildren, Gerard and Bethany Tonachel, Christopher and Kimberly Adams, Corey and Damien Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Micah and Kenzie Johnson, and Cadence Johnson.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 701 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.
