Donald Wheeler Obituary

Donald Bernard Wheeler, 79 of Deerfield Beach, FL, a devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 after a long and hard fight with cancer.

Don was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 30, 1942 to Ruby Iceal and Curtis Wheeler.  He was the oldest of 3 children including his sister, Nancy (who predeceased him) and brother Jeff Wheeler.  Don graduated from Rogers High School in 1960 and was a very good athlete lettering in both football and basketball.  Don maintained friendships throughout his life with many childhood friends.  After high school, Don went on to play football at Montana State University.

When Don returned to Toledo, he began his successful career in the business world starting out with his own 7-UP truck and distribution route and moving his way up the corporate ladder to become the President. He also was a top executive with Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola and Royal Crown Corporations which relocated him to South Florida in 1976.

Don and his family enjoyed the South Florida lifestyle and sunshine and when offered the opportunity to move back North with Royal Crown, he decided to decline and begin a long and successful career in Real Estate Management and Consulting.  In 1980, Don met Judy and a few years later they joined their lives in holy matrimony blending their families including 4 beautiful daughters.  Don and Judy owned Impact Properties together and Don managed the company through the years.  Don and Judy spent their leisure time raising their 4 daughters, socializing and entertaining their many friends and travelling to Ft. Myer’s Beach for their annual summer vacation.  Don was an avid golfer and never missed a Saturday golf match with his buddies at Oak Tree Country Club.  He was extremely proud when he accomplished his bucket list of getting a HOLE-IN-ONE on January 10, 2019 at Palm Aire Golf Club.

Don was full of life and never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke or be the life of the party.  He was full of one-liners which most of us can recite by heart.  He was an intelligent, loving, emotional, and dedicated family man.   Don was always willing to lend an ear to listen and when called upon he always gave good advice.  In 2002, Don and Judy moved from their Boca Raton home where they raised their girls to their Deerfield Beach waterfront condo where Don soon retired.  He became the President of Hillsboro Landings I and served diligently volunteering his time and experience for 14 years.

Don LOVED his family extremely hard and was so proud of each and every one of them.  Don is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Judy Wheeler, his 3 daughters, Shiela Lach (Timothy), Rachel Hecker, and Jill Kendall (Blake), his 8 grandchildren, Ellyse, Chase (Shabeli), Kacy, Jesse, Nate, Blake Jr., Cade, Kaylee, and 2 great grandchildren, Aaron and Ariel.  He was predeceased by his daughters, Kelly Wheeler and Kimberly Stockamore.
