Donald J. Barbato — known as Don and affectionately called “Donnie” by close friends and family — passed away at home on December 27, 2025 at the age of 76.
Born on August 5, 1949 in Rochester, New York, Don lived a life rooted in faith, education, friendship, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was a proud graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School and Higgins Classical Institute (post-graduate), and later went on to earn his degree from the University of Dayton, where he remained a lifelong Flyer at heart.
In his earlier years especially, Don was an avid traveler who embraced different cultures and the joy of exploring new places. He was a devoted Dayton Flyers basketball fan and an enthusiastic supporter of TCU football and baseball — cheering passionately for the teams he loved. A true animal lover, Don had a deep and gentle affection for animals throughout his life.
For 34 beautiful years, Don was the beloved husband of Patricia Barbato, with whom he shared a partnership built on love and unwavering support. He was the cherished father of Kristi Barbato Harrold, whose life and accomplishments brought him immense pride and joy.
Don will be remembered for his kind spirit, extensive knowledge, and the meaningful relationships he nurtured throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Parish in Lighthouse Point, Florida.
