Delia Aprea, 89, died November 28, 2024 at home in Florida, one week after her husband passed away. A true love story. She was born December 11, 1934 in Montorio nei Frentani, Italy. Daughter of Enrico and Maria Carmela Greco.
Delia came to America in November of 1950. The Statue of Liberty symbolized her American dream. She worked at Stella D’oro Bakery and then met the love of her life, Johnny in the Bronx, New York. They were together for 74 years, married for 69 years and raised three children. Delia started a career as an esthetician while raising her three children. She was an avid volunteer for children with special needs while living in New City, New York. Delia retired from the Nail Place in the late 80s when she and John moved to Florida. Delia continued her career as an esthetician in Stuart, Florida until her retirement.
As the matriarch of the family, Delia was instrumental in keeping traditional Italian family values and culture alive, especially on Sundays and Holidays. She took pride decorating her home for the holidays and walking on the beach collecting shells. Her recipes, which were handed down from her mother, are written in her personal cookbooks that were passed on to her children. Delia took pride in growing her orchids, which were the envy of anyone who saw them. She enjoyed dancing, volunteering her time to perform with a local singing group, loved playing cards with her friends, and traveled all over the world with her husband John, their children and grandchildren.
Delia is predeceased by her parents, Enrico and Maria Greco, her husband John, her brothers Costanzo, Michael, Hugo and her sister Nola (Cannata). Delia is survived by her sister Ilda (Bucciferro). Delia’s daughter Kathy (Cook) and husband James, daughter Carol (Murtagh) and her husband Matthew, son Philip Aprea and his wife Andrea. Seven grandchildren, Nicole (Shaffer), Courtney (Eelman), Christoper Murtagh, Matthew Murtagh, Brianna (McManus), Jonathan Aprea and Alex Aprea. Five great grand children, Nico, Delia, Cameron, Cecilia, and Delilah; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for both Delia and John is at Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, Florida 33431, on Tuesday, December 3, between 10 am and 11:15 am. A funeral Mass for both will be celebrated at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach at 12 noon. Burial is at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.
