Chiou-Horng Chen

On Thursday, July 9, 2020, Chiou-Horng “Charlie” Chen, beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away with his family by his side.

He will be dearly missed by Mary, his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, three children, Christopher (Stacey Tollackson), Patricia (Jonathan Wickham), Catherine (Timothy Seipel), three handsome grandsons and one beautiful granddaughter.  

Born and raised in Nantou, Taiwan, he was the oldest of six children. Chiou-Horng immigrated to the United States in 1968.  He was a graduate of National Taiwan University (BS), Lehigh University (MS) and Carnegie-Mellon University (PhD).  A long time resident of the great city of Pittsburgh, Chiou-Horng was very proud to work at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, PA, for over 30 years. He retired to south Florida in 2011, to be closer to his children.

Known for his quiet nature and sense of humor, Chiou-Horng enjoyed the outdoors, stamp collecting, photography, and all of the Pittsburgh sports teams.  He found joy in attending the Pittsburgh Chinese Church and following the many endeavors of his children.  He took great pride as they all went on to practice medicine. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his adoring grandchildren. 

A family service and private burial were held on July 12, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Palm Beach Chinese Christian Chapel, or the donor’s charity of choice.
