Obituary

Shaw II, Charles R. "Rhea"

Rhea Shaw, 83, was born on January 7, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky.  He passed away at his home in Boca Raton, Florida on May 6, 2022.  His wife Marguerite and son Alex were by his side.

Rhea was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles R. and Helen Block Shaw, and his sister Sandra Shaw Rainey.

Rhea was a proud graduate of St. Agnes Catholic Grammar School and St. Xavier High School in Louisville.  He also attended Bellarmine College in Louisville.  He graduated from the University of Miami.

Rhea became an avid golfer after his father introduced him to the game at 7 years of age.  He was a member of Audubon and Valhalla Country Club in Louisville and Adios Golf Clubhouse in Coconut Creek, Florida.  Rhea enjoyed the competition of the game and the camaraderie with friends.  He won dozens of member-member and member-guest tournaments.  He had the honor of playing Augusta National, Pebble Beach and many other notable golf courses throughout the U.S.

Rhea was also an astute thoroughbred horseman.  He owned many thoroughbreds.  He enjoyed the winnings of numerous pick sixes through his discipline of studying the racing form.

Rhea lived every day to the fullest.  He enjoyed riding his bicycle, exercising, traveling to La Jolla for vacation, Saratoga for the races, the Masters Golf Tournament, and of course racing days at Churchill Downs.

Rhea had a gift of gab.  He enjoyed sharing stories of his younger days with family and friends.  He spent endless hours on the phone keeping in touch with lifelong friends.

Rhea is survived by his wife Marguerite, sons Hunter, Alex, and Charles, his sister, Susan Shaw Treibly, along with dozens of nieces and nephews.
