Carol Vega Hause passed on peacefully April 3, 2026 in Boca Raton FL at 88. She was often seen dancing, traveling, laughing with friends and ignoring her age, proving that you are only as old as you feel- and she felt 29 for many years.
Born November 11 1937, Carol grew up in Brockton MA with her parents Yvonne and Domingo Vega on a small farm. She was an only child with a large extended family. Sharing a belief in the importance of education with her father, Carol earned a degree from Simmons College, Boston and a Master of Social Work from Smith College.
Carol met her husband A. Dickson Hause in Boston at a church social gathering. Once both were finished with graduate school, they moved to Murry Hill, New Jersey for his career, eventually settling in Watchung. Carol was an at-home mother for several years raising two sons and a daughter. When the kids were old enough, she returned to work part time and eventually returned full-time dedicating her social work career to support adoption, being a clinical supervisor, and supporting the mission of United Family and Children's Society in Plainfield for three decades.
When not working or raising children, Carol and Dickson enjoyed folk dancing, jazz/ classical/ opera music, ethnic food, friends, and the cultural opportunities that nearby NYC offered. Carol was also fond of tennis and sunbathing at the pool and beach. She especially enjoyed witty conversation that could be had over coffee or a glass of wine.
Tired of New Jersey winters, Carol retired to FL in 2000. She traded tennis for roller blading and trips to the beach, later for daily gym classes. Her favorite way rejoice in movement was by attending International Folk Dancing for decades and in her later years she joined the Balkin By the Beach group.
In between visits with grandchildren, Carol pursued travel with favorite trips to New Orleans, Italy, Romania, and South Africa. Her thirst for knowledge and understanding never stopped. She joined a Critical Thinking zoom call for several years and remained a lifelong voracious reader, joining book clubs including Tertulia Literaria, and spending time with new and old friends.
Carol is survived by her children: Leigh, Todd, and Marc; their respective spouses: Enrique, Doris, and Tammi; grandchildren: Leanne (spouse Robert), Christian, Michael, Coveney, Songin, and Takoda; and a great granddaughter: Sofia, whom Carol was thrilled to meet in the final year of her life.
