Carmelo Trapani, age 87, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Delray Medical Center from acute renal failure and old age after spending one hour under hospice care. Carmelo (Sonny) was born April 18, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the beloved son of the late William and Fannie (Verruso) Trapani. A devoted husband of 61 years, Carmine shared a beautiful life with his cherished wife, Fay Trapani. Their enduring love and companionship were an inspiration to all who knew them. Carmine was a loving father of William Trapani, wife Yessica and Maria Botero, husband Jimmy. Grandfather to: Isabella, Joseph, Nicolas, Daniela, Christopher, and Daniel. He was a cherished brother to the late Josephine Caruana, (late husband Tony), late Mary Trapani (late husband Steve) Angie Novini, (late husband Ray) and Jerry Trapani, (wife Rita). Uncle to numerous nieces & nephews.
Carmine took immense pride in his family and was a constant source of support, love and guidance. His legacy of kindness, strength and dedication lives on through his children and all those whose lives he touched.
Carmine proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. National Guard and was honorably discharged. He then pursued a career in Sanitation management for the city of NY. He also worked part time at the jewelry exchange in lower Manhattan. After retirement, he and his family relocated to South Florida ultimately settling in Delray Beach. He led a very active life including daily exercise, fishing, horticulture, cooking, investing and volunteering at our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church as an usher and a sir knight of the Knights of Columbus becoming a 4th degree member.
Carmine was a life long Yankee fan and his favorite player was Joe Dimaggio. He had a warm smile and generous spirit stopping to help anyone in need at any time. Carmine will always be remembered as a strong, moral and faithful roman catholic. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he encountered.
Four hours before his death, he thought he lost his treasured eye glasses and was quite relieved when they were reapplied to his eyes saying, “Now I can see”.
His wish was to be buried next to his parents and to have a pair of rosary beads accompany him.
