March 30, 1950 – October 30, 2024 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmela Shaffer, loving wife, cherished sister, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, on October 30, 2024, in Boca Raton, Florida.
Born on March 30, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, to Dominick and Mary Di Salvatore, Carmela was known for her kindness, dedication, and warmth that touched all who knew her. She will be remembered always by her loving siblings, Joseph, Biaggio and Marie. Carmela’s love of learning guided her educational journey, beginning at Kingsborough Community College and continuing through Brooklyn College. She later earned her Master’s in Education from Florida Atlantic University.
With a passion for teaching, she dedicated her career to serving children in elementary schools across South Florida, nurturing young minds and leaving an indelible impact on her students. On April 29, 1973, Carmela married Michael Shaffer, embarking on a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family. Together, they raised three children—Jason, Bryan, and Cara—and were blessed with four adoring grandchildren: Aubree, Rylee, Paige, and Jaxon. Carmela embraced life fully, filling her days with cooking, reading, and traveling the world.
She had a particular fondness for cruising and could often be found exploring the aisles of her favorite stores, including Chico’s, Macy’s, and J. Jill. Yet, her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
A visitation will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL, 33431, on Monday, November 4, 2024, beginning at 12 pm, with a memorial service immediately following at 1 pm.
