Betty Jo was born in Waycross, GA, moved to Fort Lauderdale at age 4 with her parents Oscar Ray Whiddon and Mother Mary Alma Rutherford Whiddon, brother Gene Austin, and sister Peggy Ann. She had a brother Wilson whom she met upon his return from service. Betty Jo’s father started Causeway Lumber Company in Fort Lauderale. Betty Jo married David C. Ashe in 1949 and had two Children, Sharon (1951) and Joel David (1952). Betty Jo was heavly involved in the Community and served proudly with her many accomplishments. She was a loving mother who was always there for her family. Betty Jo had many friends from her school days which she kept throughout her life. Now she is in heaven with all of them again.
Betty Jo leaves behind her children Sharon and Joel David, Grandchildren David Springman, Tracie Ashe, and Joel Haven Ashe along with three great grandchildren Ivy Ashe, Paris Ashe, and Haley Hardy. Betty Jo Married James O. Howell, they purchased a summer home in North Carolina which they traveled back and forth from. Betty Jo lost JO Howell and she continued to travel to her favorite mountain home for the summers. In early April Betty Jo wanted to spend her remaining time in the the mountains, so Betty Jo, Sharon and Mike made the return trip to the mountains to spend time with family and where she passed away on July 31, 2025 at 3 am.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7th at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton, FL from 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, August 8th, at the funeral home at 11am, followed by a graveside burial service at the Boca Raton City Cemetery in Boca Raton, FL.
