Barbara Janik Warburton
January 1, 1946 ~ January 30, 2024 (age 78) 78 Years Old
With great sadness, we announce the passing of beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend Barbara Janik Warburton, of Boca Raton, on January 30, 2024 at age 78.
Barbara was born in Chicago on January 1, 1946. She graduated Lindblom High School ad the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle, earning a Master’s degree in Linguistics. She worked as a geologic technician at the University of Chicago and, when the opportunity arose , continued that work at Philipps Universität, Marburg, Germany, where she was excited to do mineral separations on lunar samples from Apollo missions 11, 12, and 14. She lived in Germany for two years, returning with and marrying the love of her life, David, and settling in Boca Raton, where Dave taught geology at Florida Atlantic University. She was the director of the federal surplus food program in Boca Raton for several years. She enjoyed visiting abroad, and traveling around this country, especially the National Parks.
Barbara was an avid and passionate bridge player, teacher, and director. She was a Ruby Life Master, a forty-year member of the Pompano Duplicate Bridge Club, where she also served on the Board of Directors and worked for many years as a teacher and a director. More recently she was a member of Quick Tricks Bridge Club. She was an enthusiastic reader and loved movies.
Barbara adored her many kitties over the years, and her one dog, Kita, who waited patiently at the Rainbow Bridge for her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David, her sister Margaret Willocks (Curt), her nephew Glenn Willocks, his brothers Brian and Ben Willocks, her cousins Sonia and Gary Brinson, Kathleen Miller, Andrea Miller, Eric Miller, Angie Henderson , Anne and Curt Buehler, George and Jessica Brinson.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Sonia Janik.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 8th at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton.
