Barbara Sharon Akins

Barbara Akins of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the age of 88.  Barbara was born on August 4, 1937 to Paul and Grace Kicklighter in Savannah, Georgia. 

She is survived by her daughters Patrice (Michael) Liburdi of Sebring , Florida, and Christi Hice of Boca Raton, Florida.  She is also survived by her grandchildren - Sean Liburdi and his wife Rachel, of Boca Raton, Florida – Dustin Hice and his wife Meghan, of Delray Beach, Florida – Jordan Hice and his wife Nicole, of Tampa, Florida – Eric Liburdi, of Sebring , Florida – Carly Hice and her husband Gian Barreto of Cary, North Carolina.  Also including her three great grandchildren, Ella  and Jude Liburdi and Zoe Barreto.   

Barbara attended Savannah Christian School where she met her future husband George. She received her Associate’s Degree at Dekalb College and then went on to get her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education at Florida Atlantic University where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She became Vice President of Akins Sales Agency where she was in charge of Office Management, Administrative and Customer Service.

Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She always lit up when her grandkids came to visit. Her generosity and kindness to her family made everyone feel so special. She loved to travel, cook and had a beautiful voice. She was an excellent host and when the holidays came around, her home would always be decorated from top to bottom. She will be missed dearly by all.
