Aurora Montes Lopez

Aurora Montes Lopez, age 94, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on July 2, 2024

Aurora was born Julia Aurora Montes on January 31st, 1930, in Guines, Cuba; the oldest daughter of Ignacia and Reynaldo Montes.  She was later followed into the family by her sister Ada Fernandez. 

She attended Havana University from 1948-1952, where she obtained her degree in Language and Linguistics.  Aurora received a Bachelor of Arts from Biscayne College in 1974.  In 1982 She earned her master’s degree in teaching from Florida Atlantic University.

Having met Antonio Gerardo Lopez as a teen, the couple married in December 15, 1956.  In 1965, they were exiled from Cuba and relocated to New York City.  There Aurora took several jobs in the fashion industry, her true passion in life, until landing a job as patternmaker for Gloria Vanderbilt.  On October 12, 1968, Antonio and Aurora welcomed the birth of their only daughter, Susan Aurora Lopez.  In January of 1972, the family relocated to Boca Raton, Florida to be near friends and family.  There Aurora opened a custom clothing and alteration store before settling on her lifetime career of teacher.  She loved teaching and especially her students at Carver middle school where she worked until retiring from the Palm Beach County School district in 1996.  

Antonio and Aurora enjoyed traveling with their friends and visited six out of the seven continents throughout their lives. They particularly enjoyed their time in Northern Spain with Antonio’s family. 

Her family and friends will miss her.  Please join us in celebrating her life and accomplishments at a memorial gather on Monday, July 20, 2024, Glick Family Funeral Home from 1-4 pm.
