Arlene Syler Obituary

Arlene A. Syler, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and friend to many passed away quietly from a sudden illness on July 16, 2026. Born in Hyde Park, New York, Arlene was the cherished daughter of the late Oscar J. Dayton and Dorothy Dayton. Her life was a testament to family, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Arlene graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park in 1953, where she formed lifelong friendships. A year later, on October 30, 1954, she married the love of her life, Robert Syler, with whom she shared a beautiful journey until his passing in 2007. Together, they raised three sons, James Syler and Marc Syler, and the late Robert Syler, Jr., creating a family filled with love and laughter.

Her career as a secretary and bookkeeper showcased her meticulous nature and dedication. Arlene’s professional life was enriched by her involvement with the Christian Women's Club and various ministries at Boca Raton Community Church, where she was a member for many years. Her faith and commitment to service were further exemplified through her volunteer work with Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, where she offered comfort to those in need.

Arlene’s legacy lives on through her sons, James Syler and spouse Elizabeth Gutierrez Syler of San Antonio, Texas and Marc Syler and spouse Heidi Syler of Brattleboro, Vermont, her daughter-in-law Nancy Syler, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, three grandchildren and their spouses Andrew and Ashley Syler of Hobe Sound, FL, Michael and Kim Syler of Hobe Sound, FL, and Cris and Natalie Syler of Jacksonville, FL, and her eight great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart and spirit. She is predeceased by her dear husband, Robert, her son Robert Jr., and her loving parents.  She will be deeply missed and her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Wednesday, August 5th at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 AM.  Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
