Antonio Velez Obituary

Antonio (Tony) Velez, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the age of 95.

He was born in Corazal, PR, the son of Emiliano Rivera Rosado and Sotera Trinidad and step-father, Cruz Velez.

He later moved with his mother to the U.S., where he met and married his soulmate, Gladys Velez (Rodriguez), who survives him.  Tony and Gladys would have been celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary this coming August.

He is a WWII veteran who proudly served in the Army Air Force as an aerial photographer in the pacific theatre.

Tony worked many years as a sound engineer in the broadcast division of the United Nations in New York City.

His love for theatre led him to form the Director’s Theatre, a community theatre company in New Jersey that focused primarily on musical theatre productions.

He always stressed family, health and education above everything else.  He embraced everything beautiful life had to offer, but his true and enduring passion in life was the unending love and devotion he had for his wife and family.  He was an amazing man who will be truly missed.

In addition to his wife Gladys, Tony is survived by many loving family members.  Among them are his three sons, Antonio Velez of South Windsor, CT, William Velez of Franklin, TN, James Velez of Coral Springs, FL and their respective spouses Elizabeth, Terry, and Ann, his grandchildren Jeanne-Marie Russo, Michael Velez, Gloria Carleton and their respective spouses, Chris, Catherine and Shawn and his grandchildren Elisa Velez and Sean McPartland along with his great-grandchildren, John and Dominic Russo, Maddie, Ellie and Graycie Velez and Tucker and Lola Carleton.

He is also survived by his brother, Denis Velez and Denis’ spouse, Mayra, currently residing in the Dominican Republic, his sister-in-law Lydia Velez of the Bronx, New York and his nieces and nephews, Gary, Kenneth, Michael, Dean, Christopher and Derek Velez, Eddie, Ricky and Julie Sayago, Janice Medina, George Rodriguez, Kathy Rodriguez, Danielle DeCastro and Nadege DeCastro-Tucker.

He was predeceased by his sisters Helen Velez and Margaret
Sayago, his brother Manny Velez, brother-in-law George Rodriguez and sister-in-law Esther Rodriguez.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 29th from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Glick Family Funeral Home, located at 3600 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL (www.glickfamilyfuneralhome.com  561-672-1880).
