Ann Mongon Obituary

Ann Mongon, age 100, of Boca Raton, Florida, and formerly of Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025.  Born and raised in New Jersey, Ann married the love of her life, George Mongon, in 1943.  They celebrated sixty-five glorious years of marriage.

Ann and George lovingly raised six children together: Kathy (Rick) Murdoch, Mimi Ladenburger, George Mongon Jr., Peter Mongon, Debbie Mongon, and Christie Sylvester. A devoted mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Ann leaves behind a lasting legacy through her family. She was the cherished grandmother of eleven, great-grandmother of sixteen, and great-great-grandmother of five, with family spread across the country. Ann was also a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Florida. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, dear sister Jean, her devoted husband George, children George Jr., Peter, and Debbie, and sons-in-law Greg Ladenburger and Phil Sylvester.

In 1969, Ann and George moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois, where she spent the majority of her life. A devoted lifelong learner and avid reader, Ann followed her passion and earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from Dominican University in 1977. She was promptly hired as the school librarian at Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Rolling Meadows, where she worked until the school’s closure in 1987.

Ann was an influential educator who instilled a love for reading, research, and discovery in countless students. Alongside her dear friend and colleague, Mary Bombera, Ann also chaperoned numerous Spring Break trips to Europe, sharing her love of culture, history, and adventure with students as they explored the wonders of each country they visited.

After retirement, Ann and George traveled throughout the United States to visit family and satisfy their wanderlust. Over the years they took a memorable trip to Egypt and continued to explore Europe, creating a lifetime of experiences together. However, summer was always reserved for their beloved cabin in Ellsworth, Maine. A former Boy Scout camp on Green Lake, the cabin was surrounded by other family-owned cabins and those of dear friends. It became the cherished heart of the family, where Ann and George dedicated their time to swimming, playing cards, and the friendly pursuit of catching the largest bass. For decades, their children, grandchildren, and extended family have shared memories of love, laughter, and the joy of spending summers in Maine with Ann and George.

In the early 2000’s, Ann and George moved to Boca Raton, Florida.  After losing George in 2008, Ann eventually relocated to St. Andrews Estates, where she took on a new role and became the librarian in charge.  Under her direction, the library thrived and over seventy people volunteered to help her create a dynamic and popular place for residents.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, at 11:00 am in the chapel at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 370 SW 3rd St, Boca Raton, Florida. The burial will follow at Boca Raton Cemetery & Mausoleum, 451 S 4th Avenue, Boca Raton, Florida.

Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her. Ann’s strength, warmth, curiosity, and love will continue to live on through the generations of family and friends she inspired.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to the Ellsworth Public Library, 20 State Street, Ellsworth, Maine 04605.  Please visit the Ellsworth Public Library website for details regarding monetary donations.
