Celebrating a Life Well-Lived
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved family cornerstone, Angel Vazquez on Sunday October 19, 2025. Though words cannot fully capture the love and admiration we hold for him. We honor his legacy by remembering the kindness, warmth, wisdom, his deep devotion to his faith and love for music that he shared with all who knew him.
Angel was born on Monday, December 1, 1930, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, and was the middle child of 11 siblings. At age 19 he relocated to NYC where he immediately started working in the hospitality business and soon after in a book binding operation. At age 22 he joined the US Army during the Korean war and served proudly. He continued as an Army reservist for four more years. Angel had a strong work ethic, joining the Postal Service and later the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority for 23 years until he retired. He started his career in the MTA as a Train Conductor working his way up the ranks to Motor Man (train operator) on the number 7 train, safely moving millions of New Yorkers between Flushing and Times Square. Angel was also an avid NY Mets fan, so the Willets Point Shea Stadium stop always had special meaning. Angel retired from the MTA in 1982 and enjoyed working around the house, grilling with friends, vacationing in Puerto Rico, cruising, and spending time with family.
In 1956 Angel married the love of his life Maria on his birthday. They were happily married for almost 69 years. Angel is survived by his wife Maria, son Angelo, daughter Nancy married to Paul, granddaughter Christina married to Warwick, grandson Michael and great granddaughters Lucy and Sylvia. He is also survived by his siblings Pedro, Pepe, Paula, Raymond and Juanito. We also pray for siblings who predeceased Angel including Marcelino, Lino, Vicitin, Graceliano, and Juanita.
Angel will be missed but his impact on all of us will be eternal. Rest in peace. You will be dearly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
