Agostino Nicholas (Sonny) Biase, 87, died on Wednesday, July 25th in Boca Raton, Florida. He was born on February 26, 1931 in East Orange, New Jersey where he was raised and educated. He graduated from Clifford Scott High School. Sonny enlisted in the US Air Force and was a radio operator on the Albatross and C119 troop carrier, stationed in Biloxi, MS, Greenland, and Smyrna, TN. After honorably serving four years, he took employment with Metropolitan Life Insurance.
Sonny found and married his soulmate, Antoinette Tampone. Sonny and Antoinette moved to Belleville, New Jersey in 1958. He began his 40-year career in the food business, first as Co-Owner of the Crest Delicatessen in East Orange, NJ with Nick and Jimmy Petine and then as sole owner of the Short Hills Delicatessen in Short Hills, NJ. He was dedicated to his customers and was well known throughout the community.
Upon selling the deli, the Biase’s moved to Plano, Texas. Dedicated to his Catholic faith, he was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Nutley, NJ and an active parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Plano where he proudly served as a member of the Men’s Club. Leaving Texas, they moved to Boca Raton in 2016.
Sonny was predeceased by parents: Nicola Biase and Rosa Biase (nee Fariello)
Devoted husband of Antoinette Biase (nee Tampone). They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September.
Beloved father of daughter, Rose Biase (husband Stephen Vitasek) of Plano Texas, and sons Joseph (wife Donna) of Boca Raton, FL and Nicholas of Basking Ridge, NJ
Cherished grandfather of Vincent and Gianna Biase of Boca Raton, FL, and Stephanie and Sydney Vitasek of Plano, TX
Brother of Nicholas Biase of Clark, NJ, also survived by Aunt Maria Pesce of Toritto, Italy.
Visitation will take place on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Glick Family Funeral Home starting at 9:00am, the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest with Military Funeral Honors at South Florida National Cemetery.
