Adriana Ficano Obituary

Adriana Fazzano Ficano, a friend to so many and a devoted and loving wife, mother and sister left this earth much too soon. Born on August 10, 1985 to Francis (“Skip”) Fazzano Jr. and Catalina Uribe Fazzano, Adriana was born and raised in Coral Springs, Florida. She attended Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, and upon graduation, obtained her B.A. in History from Amherst College in Massachusetts. Following college she spent a year in Catania, Italy as a Fulbright Scholar. She later earned an MPA from Nova Southeastern University while working at Broward College as the Chief of Staff to the President.

Adriana was a born leader, with a long list of leadership roles and accomplishments. Her greatest gift though was her unique ability to meaningfully connect with anyone, anywhere, and forge lasting friendships. Her enthusiasm and positive energy was a remarkable feature treasured by her many friends.

Adriana’s greatest joy derived from her husband Juan Pablo and their daughter Daniela. In 2018, when Daniela was just 6 months old, Adriana’s life took an unexpected turn with her diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer. Adriana fought the disease with unfathomable courage. She and Daniela relocated to Houston from October 2018 to June 2019 for treatment at MD Anderson. She underwent the most rigorous chemotherapy treatments available along with surgery in January 2019 that required a complete reconstruction of her left shoulder. In her typical style she went all-in on physical therapy, fueled by the desire to recover in time for her daughter’s first birthday, an ambitious goal she achieved thanks to sheer grit.

In June 2019 she and her family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, where they became active members of the St. Marks Episcopal School community. In June 2021, Adriana’s osteosarcoma returned. She went all-in once more in a battle for her life, fueled by immense love for her family. Undeterred by her prognosis she endured dozens of additional rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries of her scalp, brain, and spine.

Through it all Adriana’s radiant energy never dimmed, and she remained a leader in her community and a living example of courage, faith and love. She passed away peacefully on February 14, 2023 with family by her side. Adriana is survived by her husband Juan, her daughter Daniela, her father Skip, sister Alicia (David) Castro, and her niece, nephew, and a loving network of extended family and friends. She is reunited in heaven with her mother Catalina, and aunt Cristina, both of whom passed in 2021.

A visitation will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19 from 6-8pm.
