William Gene Callan

William Gene Callan, age 77, went peacefully on April 9, 2018.

Bill was born April 16, 1940 in Staunton, Virginia. He attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia and proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Randolph which heightened his passion for aviation. He was a loving husband to his surviving spouse Carolyn Martin Callan and the two were married in 1961 and spent 57 wonderful years together.

He went on to attend and graduate from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After Embry-Riddle he became an employee for Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell for over 30 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved sister Bonnie Callan Jackson and his brother Tommy Callan. He  is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Callan Serrato, her spouse Angelo Serrato and son William Callan Jr. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Kaitlin Callan Keen, Gabriella Serrato, Kaylee Callan, Angelo Serrato and Kourtney Callan, and one great grandchild Callan Joseph Keen. His surviving siblings are Larry Callan and Vickie Colacino. He is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews. All of his family members brought special purpose and joy to his life.

Bill will be remembered for his love of flying specifically to his dedication to aviation safety especially in the areas of TCAS and wind shear. He was also an avid diver, marginal golfer, competitive basketball player, loved testing the culinary arts. He was also devoted to his family and friends and shared a sense of passion for traveling and adventure.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10-11 am on Saturday April 14 at The Glick Family Funeral Home, Boca Raton FL, where a Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am.
