Stela Tudoran

Dr. Stela Tudoran, long time Boca Raton resident and practicing Ear, Nose, and Throat physician, went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2017 at the age of 81. 

Dr. Tudoran is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gregory Tudoran; daughter, Dr. Daniela Tudoran and son-in-law, Dr.Timothy Viner of Boca Raton; grandsons, Timothy Viner, Jr. and Caelin Viner, and granddaughters Sloane Viner and Cristina Viner; siblings, Dr. Felicia Spuza (Michael) of St. Petersburg, FL, Lucia Cotirla (Lica), of Ellenton, FL; brother,  Dr. Peter Oanca (Mioara) of Cullman, AL.  She is preceded in death by her parents Ecaterina and Petru Oanca.

            Stela was born on September 5, 1935 in Arad, Romania. She attended primary and high school in Arad and Medical School in Timisoara.  She practiced as an ENT Surgeon for 5 years in Bucharest, Romania.

In November of 1968 she was unexpectedly presented with the opportunity to escape the oppressive clutches of Romania’s communist dictatorship. She jumped at the chance of smuggling herself and her 4-year-old daughter Daniela out from behind the Iron Curtin. Once she reached safety in Italy, she secretly sent word to her husband, Gregory, who then fled the country on foot meeting up with his wife and daughter in Italy. 

After six months of waiting in a refugee camp for clearance to emigrate to the United States, Stela and her family legally arrived in Chicago, IL in May of 1969.   She taught herself English (with help from watching cartoons!), and was required to redo her internship and residency in order to practice what she loved.  Dr. Tudoran arrived in South Florida in 1976 and, with the help of her husband Gregory, established herself as one of the most prominent surgeons in the area.  She loved the practice of Medicine and went to extraordinary lengths for all her patients.

Although she truly loved medicine, it came in second to her family and her relationship with God. She was most proud of her four grandchildren, whom she adored and loved ferociously.

             A visitation will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home on Friday, February, 24 from 3-7pm. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Boca Raton, FL, followed by interment at the Boca Raton City Cemetery.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Stela’s life. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Marcus Center of Boca Raton Regional Hospital for their wonderful care and comfort to Stela and her family during her stay there.
