Samuel Russell MacArthur Obituary April 24, 1941 - December 21, 2019
Samuel R. MacArthur, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Sam was born in Evanston, Illinois on April 24, 1941 and lived most of his life in Michigan and Connecticut then settled in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He graduated High School from Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (1959) as an accomplished student and athlete excelling in hockey, soccer and track. Sam went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (1963) and a Master’s in Business Administration (1965) from the University of Michigan. While attending the University of Michigan, Sam was an active member of the Lambda Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, serving as President.
After a successful career on Wall Street, Sam retired from investment banking and settled in Florida where he enjoyed the beach, golfing, biking and most of all working on his three prized automobiles, a 1985 Porsche 928 S, 1986 Jaguar XJ6 and 1967 Jaguar XKE.
Sam is survived by his son, Robert S. MacArthur and wife Lakshmi, daughter, Catherine M. Grzybowski and husband Ed, and daughter, Patricia A. Baron and husband Dan along with five grandchildren: Charlie, Samuel, Joshua, Megan and Sean. He is also survived by his sister, Joan MacArthur Menge and her children: Jennifer, Christopher, Matthew and Beth. Sam was predeceased by his father, Samuel Edgar MacArthur and his mother, Christine Russell MacArthur.
A Memorial Service will be held at Boca Raton Municipal Cemetery and Mausoleum at 9 AM on January 29, 2020.
