Ruth Thompson Obituary

Ruth Thompson Obituary

Ruth was born February 27, 1916 to Einar and Nanna Eriksen in New York City.  In 1937 she married Ted Thompson who, at that time, was a businessman in New York City.  A few years later, Ted was led by the Lord to enter the ministry and that brought purpose that will live forever.

Throughout the years their ministry took them from coast to coast in many capacities, but there was always a common theme; the message, music and hospitality.  She served in many capacities in each church from teaching Sunday School to helping in the kitchen.  However, Ruth’s hospitality and willingness to have an open house is remembered by all those who knew her.  Whether it was Ted bringing home unexpected guests for dinner, or her children bringing their friends, there was always a place at the table and always an open door.

Ruth learned to play the piano as a child and continued playing until her last days.  During their years of ministry, Ted was at the pulpit, Ruth was at the piano or organ.  But, Ruth would also use her talents to play for sing-a-longs in the community, which many have enjoyed.  All anyone had to do was hum a tune, and Ruth would play it.

She “ran the race that was set before her” Hebrews 12:1; she “…finished the race, she kept the faith…” II Timothy 4:7.

She is survived by her children Norman (Marilyn) and Nancy; grandchildren Karen (Don) Niehoff, David (Dorie) Thompson and Jennifer (Andrew) McGuigan.  She has nine great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 5, 2018 at 4:00 pm at St. Andrew Estates where she lived for 17 years.
