Richard J Barnett

Richard John Barnett, 59, passed away at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton on Sunday, May 14th, 2017.

Born July 15, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland, Rick lived in Jacksonville, Florida with his parents until moving to Boca Raton, Florida with his beloved wife, Janet Barnett, for 31 years.

Rick was a loving husband to Janet Bergman Barnett for 36 years; devoted father of Kimberly Barnett, Heather Richman and son-in-law Jonathan Richman. He leaves behind his beloved brothers James (Terry) Barnett, Kenneth (Lea Ann) Barnett, sister Nancy Barnett, step-mother Judith Barnett, step-brother David (Traci) Croke, step-sister Sharon (Kerry) Allsup, numerous cousins, and dogs Omar, Nessi, Dax, Buzz and Bell. 

Richard started in Jacksonville, Florida as a corrections officer then began as a road patrol officer with the Boca Raton Police department in July 1981. He then became a K-9 officer serving the Boca Raton community with his partners Branko, Eluo and Rambo; retiring in September 2000. He decided retirement wasn't for him and started with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office September 2002. He again started on road patrol but shortly moved to the Palm Beach airport TSA K-9 unit with partners Omar, Nessi and Dax. 

A memorial service is being held at Glick Family Funeral Home on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2pm.

The family requests expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton.
