Riad Massad Boulos, passed away Monday, November 4, at the age of 76.
He was born in Kfaraaka, Lebanon; the 11th of 11 children with 8 brothers (Salim, Najib, Philippe, Fouad, Fawzi, Victor, Fares and Chehade) and 2 sisters (Almaza and Salam).
In the early 60’s he moved to Baton Rouge, La. to study engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU). While attending LSU, he met his soul mate, Sara Andrews, who immediately converted him into a “coonass” through and through. Of course, he was a devoted Tigers fan to the very end.
His professional achievements began early in his career as he played a lead role in infrastructure development from Houston to Norway and many places in between, including the 610 Ship Channel bridge in Houston. After settling in South Florida, he ran operations for JMD Incorporated, including Matouk’s US distribution, for 35 years.
He was guided by his faith, a model father to his two sons and a loving husband to his wife and best friend. He was a highly respected and loved community and church leader where his actions did all the talking for him. He was the “go to guy” for help with just about anything; rushing to help you as much as he could, as fast he could, even during the fragile years later in his life. When you asked, he was willing to give you his candid valuable advice often telling you what you needed but didn’t want to hear. He went about his day inconspicuously while endlessly enriching the lives of those around him.
He is survived by his sons Philippe and Michael, daughters-in-law Julie and Valerie, grandchildren Philippe II, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Alexandra, and Fiona, brother Chehade Boulos and by numerous cherished relatives and friends. He is preceded by his wife of 48 years, Sara Elizabeth Boulos, parents, Massad and Nazle Boulos and brothers Salim, Najib, Fawzi, Fouad, Philippe, Victor, Fares and his sisters Almaza and Salam.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, November 8 at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10 am on Saturday, November 9 at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church where a Funeral Liturgy will begin at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum.
