Phyllis Marino, 75, of Highland Beach, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018. Her last words were, “Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus”. Perhaps God needed another Christmas Angel. Phyllis has now joined her two beloved sons at the gate of Heaven.
Phyllis was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 7, 1943; the cherished daughter of Thomas and Elvira Abbate from Northern Italy. Michael and Phyllis were sweethearts since they were 15 and 16 years old and were married 58 years in September of 2018. Phyllis and Mike were blessed with three sons; they lived in Staten Island for many years where Phyllis worked as the Controller of AAT Communications Corporation in Iselin. They settled in Highland Beach, Florida. Phyllis worked on the Finance Committee and was also active in her condo in Highland Beach. A spiritual woman, she lived her Catholic faith daily as she attended St. Lucy’s Catholic Church of Highland Beach.
Phyllis was preceded in death by sons Robert Marino on April 20, 2017 and Christopher Marino on December 9, 2017. Besides her devoted husband, Michael; she leaves behind son Michael Marino (family calls him Michael three); he lives with his wife Kelly Marino on Staten Island, NY. Phyllis is also survived by her daughter-in-law’s Nancy Marino of Boca Raton, FL and LeeAnn Marino Gonzalez of Vero Beach, FL. The joy of her life were her grandchildren: Frances Marino of Staten Island, Michael (family calls him Michael four); he lives with his wife Kristen Marino in Staten Island; Gia Marino of Nashville, TN; and Bobby Marino, Jr of Long Island. Phyllis and Mike have one great-granddaughter, Lily; the daughter of Frances Marino. Phyllis was an only child and, therefore, she called Cathy Marino Brennan of Highland Beach her sister who recently sent her spouse Eddie (Ebby) to heaven on June 23, 2018; and Angelo Marino her brother. Phyllis loved her sister-in-law Connie (Concetta) Rosa and was sad to learn of her husband Louie’s passing in January of 2018. Angelo lives in Delray Beach with his wife Cathy Marino. Phyllis loved to travel and had planned many trips to come with her sister and travel buddy, Cathy.
Phyllis was like an angel on earth. Her smile would light up a room! Friends wrote the family these messages echoed by many, “Phyllis was the kindest, sweetest, most caring of people. I was honored to be called her friend” and “What a beautiful, faithful women who changed my life in so many ways”. Phyllis always made every person feel that they were the most important one in the room.
There will be a Celebration of her Life on Sunday, January 6th beginning at 4:00 and ending at 7:00pm at Glick Family Funeral Home. The Marino family would love you to bring a Christmas Angel ornament that will be placed on Phyllis’ memory tree. The funeral Mass will be the following day at St. Lucy’s Church at 11:00am, followed by a procession to Boca Raton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and mass cards, the family suggest donations to St. Lucy’s Church – 3510 N. Ocean Blvd., Highland Beach 33487 in memory of Phyllis Marino. Please indicate for “The Poor”
