JOHN “NIGEL” CLAYTON, 78, of Deerfield Beach passed away Sunday, July 29, due to heart complications. Although born and raised in Allwoodly (Yorkshire), England, Florida has been his home away from home for over 30 years, living in Key West, Hollywood and finally Deerfield Beach in the years since his retirement. He also has a home in Richmond near London a spot he loved right on the river Thames.
Nigel was a truly distinguished gentleman who shined throughout his prestigious and impressive career. In his younger years he was an actor, seen on British television including soap operas and BBC’s program “Dr. Who”. In following years, he was a corporate executive with British Airways and served as Director of Sales. His charisma and professional achievements also offered him the unique opportunity to serve as Cruise Director with Royal Cruise Line and Silversea Cruises, and later lead the Silversea loyalty program ‘The Venetian Society’. He also led expeditions to Antarctica with Regent Seven Seas Cruises. In his spare time he loved photography, computers and embraced technology.
Whether during his career or with personal friendships, Nigel touched the hearts and lives of thousands with his kindness, genuineness and great sense of humor - and, of course, with his sparkling blue eyes.
He is predeceased by his parents and brother from England. Surviving is his beloved partner and husband of 47 years, Darius Mehta, and his faithful dog Charlie.
A ‘Tribute & Toast’ to Nigel will be held in Florida on August 17th at 4:30PM at the Glick Family Funeral Home 3600 N Federal Highway, Boca Raton FL 33431. www.glickfamilyfuneralhome.com
There will also be a Memorial Service in Yorkshire, England, which will also be his final resting place.
Nigel loved animals and especially his American Cocker Spaniels Max and Charlie. Should friends desire to make a memorial donation instead of flowers, “Florida Cocker Spaniel Rescue” was one of his favorite charities. Information can be found online at: www.floridacocker.org/donate
