Naomi Ruth Haberlein

Naomi Ruth (Carmichael) Haberlein, 90, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away August 9, 2018.  Naomi was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 24, 1927.  She has resided in Boca Raton since 1987.

Naomi is survived by her son, John A. Haberlein, Jr. (Tonya) of Boca Raton and two grandchildren, Anna (Ben) Stewart, of Phoenix, AZ and John T. Haberlein of St. Petersburg, FL.  Naomi was proceeded in death by the love of her life, John A. Haberlein, Sr., her daughters, Lynn Ann and Gail Sue, her parents and three siblings.

Naomi met John in the 8th grade and a true love story began. Along with owning a business, raising children, managing a real estate office, directing choirs and playing the church organ, Naomi (and John) enjoyed entertaining family and friends.  She did it all with ease and true joy. 

In the 1950s Naomi and three friends began the Gibson Girls barbershop quartet.  In 1960 they were awarded The Queens of Harmony at the Sweet Adelines International Competition. She directed the Sweet Adelines Chorus which also won the international competition.  Their quartet enjoyed traveling around the globe sharing their joy of music with others.

Naomi and John retired to Florida in 1987 where they enjoyed the warm weather, grandchildren, and were small business owners.  After John’s unexpected passing in 2003, Naomi began working at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Boca Raton.  She immersed her energetic self and greatly appreciated the love of the congregation and staff until her retirement a few months ago.

Words cannot capture all of who Naomi was. 

Her family is comforted knowing she knew the Lord and that she rests with Him while reuniting with those she loved abundantly and missed greatly.  To God be the Glory!

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Naomi can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL on August 18, at 4:00 pm.
