Marie P. (Papas) Mastro-DeRidder

Marie Mastro DeRidder passed away on May 27, 2018 in Delray Beach, Florida surrounded by her children.  She was 80 years old.

   Marie was born in Astoria, New York on January 13, 1938 to Paula and Abraham Papas.  They relocated to Babylon where Marie met her first love, Vincent (Vinny) Mastro at Babylon High School.  Vinny, of Park Ave. Fuel Oil, Inc., and Marie married in 1957 and went on to have three children. They were happily married until Vinny's death at the age of 35 in 1975.  

    Marie dedicated the next eight years to her children and her role as Secretary at St. Joseph's School until she was swept off her feet a second time by her current husband Louis (Lou) DeRidder of Babylon.  Lou and Marie married in 1983. They spent many years traveling, dancing and gathering the Mastro and DeRidder families together at Marie’s home on Litchfield Ave.. Marie loved to cook for and spend time with her family.

    After several years as "Snowbirds", they relocated to Hypoluxo, Florida, where they stayed very involved in their condo activities; serving on committees, playing Bocce, attending special events and swimming. Their retirement was wonderful until Marie was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2012.  She fought a long and difficult battle before her death. Until the very end, Marie’s only desire was to be with her husband and children.

    Marie is survived by her loving husband, Louis DeRidder, her three adoring children, Joseph Mastro (Diane), Linda Mastro-Tome (Bill) and Vincent Mastro (Kirsten), eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by Lou’s three daughters whom she loved very much, Barbara Golub (Michael), Ellen Chang (Bill) and Catherine DeRidder (John Pepe), as well as six more grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  Marie was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Sosnicki.

Funeral Services will be held in New York. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6th from 6-8pm at Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home in Babylon, NY. A funeral mass will be celebrated the next day, Thursday, June 7th at 10am at St Joseph Catholic Church in Babylon, followed by burial at North Babylon Cemetery.
