Maren Auerbach
February 4, 1946 - February 27, 2019
Maren Auerbach was born on February 4, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to Jim and Marge Sands, and was raised in Pueblo, Colorado. In 1969, while attending college in Europe, she met Les Auerbach, who was then stationed in Germany with the Air Force, and they were married on December 2, 1969 in Basel, Switzerland. They moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1970, and to Boca Raton, FL in 2004.
Maren earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland, master's degree at the University of Oklahoma, and Juris Doctor degree at Howard University, where she graduated number 3 in her law school class.
She was a gifted and compassionate lawyer and routinely deflected credit for her achievements (but did allow a toast after her 2nd hole-in-one).
In 2010, she was afflicted with a rare, incurable brain disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, and withstood its ever-worsening cruel symptoms with grace, dignity, and an awe-inspiring sense of humor, showing not only how to live, but also how to die. For those whose lives she touched, her generous and joyful life will never be forgotten.
Maren is survived by her husband of 49 years, Les Auerbach, sister Lucianne Todero (Nick), brother Bruce Sands (Linda), niece Lori Barberi, nephews Rob Todero and Brendan Sands.
A memorial service will be held at the Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL 33431 on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.
