Lillian Lapides, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at
the age of 99. Lillian was born in Newark NJ on August 30 1918 to Harry and
Bessie Kaplan. She attended Bragaw Avenue Elementary School and Southside
High School. She later received a teaching degree from the former Montclair
State College and taught Special Education. She was active in the arts and served
as a docent at the Newark Museum of Art. She worked with the UNICEF program
for many years and eventually returned to work in the food brokerage industry
before retiring and moving to Florida. Lillian enjoyed reading and was always
eager to recommend a favorite book. She was passionate about art and music,
and loved the seaside, particularly Bradley Beach, New Jersey and the South
Florida coastline. In later years Lillian traveled extensively with her devoted
companion, the late Lou Kaplan of Boca Raton and Minneapolis.
She was the loving wife of the late Saul Arons of Hillside, New Jersey.
Later husbands, Morris Schreiner and Harry Lapides, predeceased her. Her beloved
daughter Janet from her marriage to Morris Schreiner died in 1969. Her devoted
brothers and sister, Samuel, Eugene and Ruthie, also predeceased her.
Lillian is survived by her loving children from her marriage to Saul Arons, daughter
Susan and her husband Bobby Shand and their children, Ryan and Justin, of
Montecito, California, son Steven of St. Louis, Missouri and son David and his wife
Meri and their children, Samantha and Jason, of McLean, Virginia. Her love of life
and beautiful smile will be forever cherished by all those who knew and loved her.
