Welcome to the memorial page for

Lester Eugene Embree

January 9, 1938 ~ January 19, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Lester Eugene Embree, 79, of Delray Beach passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Lester was born a working class kid in pre-war California.  As a young man he served our country in the Marine Corps.  Lucky for Phenomenology he did, because the GI Bill made it possible for him to use his brilliant mind.  After his undergraduate degree he got to really find and pursue his true passion and became a philosopher earning his PhD. from the New School.  He was a student of Dr. Gurwitch, helping to proselytize and build on the work that Dr. Husserl began.

During his time at Duquesne University he started the Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology.  He wrote and published several books and articles.  He traveled the world leading and speaking at diverse and fascinating conferences.

Though his work was a large part of his life, he was also a father as well and is survived by his three children.  His other passion was being a caretaker of the environment, encouraging all of us with his early adoption of electric cars and other alternative fuels.  In light of this, the family is honoring him with donations to the Sierra Club.

Please light a candle and share your memories and stories of him with us.

The family will be holding their own private ceremony. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in Lester Embree's honor to the Sierra Club. www.sierraclubfoundation.org
