John M. Gumina, 99, of Boca Raton passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
Our dad was born - Giovanni Maurizio Gumina on October 8, 1920 in a house in Greenwich, CT. His parents were Benedetto and Lucia. They emigrated to America from Mistretta, Sicily circa 1914. One of our daughters - Juliana shares the same birthday with dad. Dad made it into his 100th year and simply ran out of gas @ 2 am on Monday, December 16th. I'm sure that dad is back with his beloved wife of over 70 years - Isabella who had been waiting for him to rejoin her in heaven since March of this year. All of our family got to say their goodbyes to dad and share one last visit with him just before he passed.
He was the very last of his generation. John proudly served his Country in the US Army during WW II. Dad didn't speak a word of English till he was 7-8 yrs. old. He graduated from Fordham University. Dad loved sports, especially basketball and tennis.
"John" & Isabella had two kids: Nancy and John, 4 grandchildren: Samantha, Nicolas, Juliana & Ben....and 2 great-grandchildren > Stella and Giovanni! He was pa-pa Giovanni to them.
Love you dad!
God Bless!
