Jean Foglesong Obituary

Jean Marilyn Foglesong

(1930-2019)

(Jean) Marilyn Foglesong, 88 of Delray Beach, Florida, a loving mother, wife, and homemaker went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2019.

She was the daughter of Harry and Grace (Manion) Jones and was born on September 15, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois.   She was the sister of Richard Jones of Davenport Iowa.   Marilyn had a traditional mid-west childhood growing up with her parents and family, enjoying homemade ice cream, visits to her family on their farms, and spending time with her friends in her free time.   Her best friend growing up as a kid became her boyfriend whom she later married at age 19 when they decided to move to Miami, Florida in 1950 driving a 12-year-old Buick and ending up building a successful real estate business during the land boom at the time.   While in Miami, she and her husband met and became good friends with several neighbor couples living in their apartment complex.   Unfortunately, after 8 years of marriage, they broke up.   She then became a paralegal for a prominent legal firm in downtown Miami and later, in 1965 met one of the neighbors she previously knew who was then widowed, Charles Foglesong, while having lunch at a restaurant.   She would end up marrying him that same year.  The Foglesong’s moved to South Dade County in Miami, Florida, now the Village of Palmetto Bay, where they raised their son.   Her husband passed away in early 1992, and later that year Hurricane Andrew decimated the area and she lost her home.   After the storm, she moved to Broward County in 1992 to rebuild her life and then later to Delray Beach in Palm Beach County, Florida where she resided until her death.    Marilyn was best known for her love of the Lord, active participation in church Bible studies and events, showing her incredible love for her family and friends, and actively enjoying her favorite past time of shopping for clothes.   While she had many years as a widow, she was a welcomed part of her son’s family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Marilyn is survived by her son and daughter in law John and Kim Foglesong along with her granddaughter Amanda Foglesong of Boca Raton, Florida.

A private service and celebration of life will be held in her honor in mid-September 2019 where she will be laid to rest in Miami, Florida at Woodlawn South Cemetery.   In leu of flowers or gifts, a donation in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association alz.org.
