Jack R. Fitzgerald

Jack Fitzgerald, 89, retired American Airlines Captain, took his final flight home on September 8, 2019 with his family by his side.
Jack was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 2, 1930 to Dollard and Alva Fitzgerald. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit and Wayne University (WSU) earning his Masters in Heath and Science and receiving his ROTC Cadet training in 1953. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served his country in the Korean War as a pilot and rose to Major before leaving the Military in 1965. He joined American Airlines as a commercial pilot based at Chicago-O’Hare. For 25 years Jack flew for American retiring as Captain on the Boeing 767’s in 1990.
Moving to Boca Raton in 1992, Jack was an avid swimmer and golfer and on his 80th Birthday he celebrated with a ‘Hole-In-One’ at Boca Woods Country Club where he was a member. He loved poker, story-telling, friends and most of all, treasured his family.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Elaine Combs Fitzgerald, daughters, Jacquie Drucker (John), Juliet Little (Ken), and Cheryl Briesemeister; Grandchildren, Josianne Brodbeck, Jordan Brodbeck, Alexandra Briesemeister, Matlyn Drucker, and former wife, Joanne Fitzgerald and many loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Dollard and Alva Fitzgerald and his brother Gerald (June) Fitzgerald.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:30AM at Spanish River Church, 2400 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL. 33431.
