Gladys Velez, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the age of 93.
She was born in Juana Diaz, PR, the daughter of Antonio and Elisa Rodriguez. She later moved with her parents to the U.S., where she met and married her soulmate, Antonio (Tony) Velez, who passed on April 25, 2018. Gladys and Tony would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last month.
After arriving in the U.S., Gladys worked many years as a beautician and executive secretary.
When her husband, Tony, formed the Director’s Theatre, a community theatre company in New Jersey, she assumed a vital role in the organization and often performed in productions as well.
She had an incredible sense of humor and was devoted to her family. She was also a gentle soul and those who knew her often ascribed to her the adjective “angel.” She was a treasure and her smile and generous kisses will be truly missed.
She was predeceased by her brother, George Rodriguez, and his wife, Esther.
Gladys is survived by many loving family members. Among them are her three sons, Antonio Velez of South Windsor, CT, William Velez of Franklin, TN, James Velez of Coral Springs, FL and their respective spouses Elizabeth, Terry, and Ann; her grandchildren, Jeanne-Marie Russo, Michael Velez, Gloria Carleton and their respective spouses, Chris, Catherine and Shawn; and her grandchildren, Elisa Velez and Sean McPartland, along with her great-grandchildren, John and Dominic Russo, Maddie, Ellie and Graycie Velez and Tucker and Lola Carleton.
She is also survived by her nieces, Kathy Rodriguez, Janice Medina and her partner, Bill Badillo, her nephew, George Rodriguez and his wife, Judy, and her great-niece, Dana Casanova and her husband, Jeffrey.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 13th from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Glick Family Funeral Home, located at 3600 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL (www.glickfamilyfuneralhome.com 561-672-1880).
Funeral is scheduled for Friday, September 14th starting at 9:30 am from the Glick Family Funeral Home to The Boca Raton Mausoleum, 451 SW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton, FL (www.bocaratonmausoleum.com 561-391-5717).
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gladys’ life with her family.In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in Gladys’ name to the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – West Palm Beach, Florida. Representing our family in the walk is her niece, Janice Medina.
