George “Yorgos” Horaitis was born on July 26th, 1925, in the small mountain town of Kastrion, Greece, within the Peloponnese peninsula. He survived the occupation of Greece during World War II, eventually moving to Chicago in May of 1956.
While living in Chicago, he met his wife, Geraldine, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Stuart, and grandchildren, Greg and Erin.
George loved to share stories of growing up in Greece. His favorite story was falling asleep on the grass after playing with his brothers amongst the numerous fruit trees on the family land. It was springtime with many baby goats and lambs grazing, and he was woken up by his ear being gently nibbled by one of the baby goats.
Services will be held on Monday, June 16th, 11:00 AM, at St. Mark’s Greek Orthodox Church, 2100 NW 51st Street (Yamato), Boca Raton, Florida.
