Elly Georges, 85, of Boca Raton, Florida fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020.
To all who knew her, Elly was a loving, kind and vivacious woman. She had a dynamic personality and always had a sparkle in her eye. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Incredibly nurturing, she had a way of making anyone she spoke to feel special. To the love of her life, George, her husband of 62 years, she was a devoted best friend.
Born in Panama City, Panama in 1934, she was the daughter of Greek immigrants. As a child growing up in Central America during World War II, she lived a challenging and fascinating life. Elly loved to fondly share colorful stories of her childhood on the beaches of Panama. At the age of 10 and after the war, her family emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Astoria, Queens, NY. Elly was fluent in Spanish, Greek and English. She attended school in NYC while working various jobs to help support her family.
Having endured challenging times, Elly learned at a young age that with a caring and loving family, a passion to succeed, and a devout faith in God, any obstacle or hardship could be overcome. She truly lived this belief.
At the young age of 23, God blessed Elly with a chance meeting of her soulmate. Elly and George married in 1957 in Brooklyn, NY, where they lived for 30 years. They remained an inseparable, loving and loyal couple for nearly 63 years until George passed, a mere 60 days before Elly. Their love for each other was and is an inspiration to their family.
As a mother, Elly exemplified unconditional love and support. She was always encouraging and filled with optimism.
Elly was a devoted Greek Orthodox Christian and an active member of the Greek Orthodox community. She was a faithful member of St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church of Boca Raton for over 22 years, where she volunteered her time as a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Elly will always be remembered for her vibrant energy, passion for life and congenial nature. She exemplified a generous spirit and willingness to help others. Elly enjoyed being active. She was passionate about playing tennis, loved to dance and socialize with close friends.
She is survived by her three children, Chrysanthe, Chris and Thomas, her daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Cathie, her grandchildren, Gabriel, Sophia, Camarin, Serafina and Alex, and her nephew, Alky.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20th at St. Mark Greek Orthodox Church in Boca Raton. A funeral service will follow. An entombment will take place at The Gardens Memorial Park immediately after.
