Eileen Kay Bishop-List, age 65, passed away on June 12, 2018 in Boca Raton, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Chicago on April 28, 1953, she was raised in Merrillville, Indiana. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Eunice (Peters) Bishop. She leaves behind a loving family: husband John List; siblings Roberta Pearce (David), Linda Zart (Michael) and James Bishop (Mary). Eileen had an ardent, close relationship with all her nieces and nephews: William Zart (Kelly); Suzanne Herzog (Peter), and Kimberly Bishop-Frampton (Robert); Sharon Pearce; Michael Pearce; Jennifer Beers (Christopher); Deborah Harrison (Eric); Christopher, Jennifer and Alexander Bishop; Dehanna and Dane Watson. She also was extremely close and proud of her four grand-nieces: Lauren Grace Frampton and Mia, Hailey and Alexa Beers.
After attending Merrillville High School Eileen received a full scholarship to Butler University, Indianapolis, IN before transferring in her sophomore year and graduating with honors from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Journalism. She met her life partner of more than 40 years, her first week on campus. They moved to South Florida in 1979 and resided in Boca Raton. She was President/Owner of Marketing Quorum, Boca Raton; Bishop & List Interests, Boca Raton, FL.
She was a member of the Board of Communications Services of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for President Ralph Bohlmann (1982-1992); received a presidential appointment by President Gerald Kieschnick to the Synodical Commission on Women (2002-2006) and remained President Kieschnick’s personal representative to the Board for Communications Services (2006-2010). Most recently, Eileen was Editor and communications consultant to the Board of Directors of the Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, 1979 to current, under five LCMS District Presidents: Lloyd Behnken, Thomas Zehnder, Edward Trinklein, Gerhard Michaels and Gregory Walton. She was Editor-in-Chief of Lutheran Life Florida-Georgia District newsmagazine 1979 to current, and Editorial coordinator and consultant for the Rev. Stephen Carretto for ”Celebrate” magazine of St. Paul Lutheran Church & School, 2018.
Outside interests including membership in the Valparaiso University Guild and the Gamma Phi Sorority and membership in the board of directors for Mission:Haiti. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Eileen was fiercely loyal and supportive to her family, friends and faith. Her work was an inspiration to many and she was greatly respected by members of the South Florida real estate community as well as her church. She has been an intimate member of the Nova Singers, Nova Southeastern University since 1979 and participated in all concert schedules as well as multiple national and European tours. Throughout her life, she has had enduring friendships and will be profoundly missed. Her humor, bright personality and keen wit were treasured by everyone who knew her, and she was loved and admired for her positive perspective and strong devotion to her Christian ideals.
Christmas was Eileen’s favorite holiday and she sent monthly updates on how long it would be until the next observance. These began the day after Christmas.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 17th at St Paul Lutheran Church in Boca Raton, FL.
