Edward (Eddie) J. Brennan: July 5, 1937-June 23, 2018
Edward J. Brennan of Highland Beach, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 23, 2018, less than two weeks before his 81st birthday. His wife of 56 years, Catherine Brennan (Marino) was by his side holding his hand and reminding him of the great memories they made during their life together.
Edward was born in New York on July 5, 1937, the first son on John (Jack) and Alice Brennan. He attended Industrial Arts High School in New York. After graduation, Eddie served in the Air Force National Guard, protected and served as a New York City policeman, and continued his professional career working for the Travelers Corporation until his retirement. Edward and Cathy moved to Seagate of Highland as full time Florida residents in 2013 where they have enjoyed their view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, eating at new restaurants, and attending performances at the Wick Theater. He has loved being close to relatives and friends who have become family over the years.
They say you can’t choose your family, but Edward sure did. His Italian in-laws Michael and Phyllis Marino, Angelo and Cathy Marino, and Connie and Louis Rosa became his brothers and sisters. To some, Eddie seemed like the strong, silent type. But they knew he could laugh and joke with the best of them and lasting memories were made on Christmas Eve in the basement in Brooklyn, on road trips, and at summer backyard and block parties. Any time they were together, a party was sure to follow.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents Alice and John Brennan, and brothers Richard Brennan and John Brennan. He is survived by his “bride” and the love of his life, Catherine, and two children, Lynn (Kyle) and John (Deborah). Edward’s three loving grandchildren – Connor, Ryan, and Grace – called him “Big Daddy” and “Ba” – a name his granddaughter created when she was just learning to talk. Edward’s many family members, nieces, and nephews remember him as a quiet, kind, gentle man who was delighted by their stories and adventures.
The family welcomes friends to celebrate Eddie’s life at a funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 3 at 10:30 at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church in Highland Beach followed immediately by urn burial at the Boca Raton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted in Edward’s name to Trustbridge: Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Ration, FL 33480 https://www.trustbridge.com/give-help.
