Doris Frazier Obituary

Doris Isabel McClelland Frazier

April 19, 1936 – September 1, 2019 (83 years old)

Doris Frazier, 83, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on September 1, 2019 peacefully at Hospice by the Sea when her body and spirit decided that her lifetime of giving to her family, friends, and community must pass from this earthly life to a Heavenly life. Doris was born in Chicago, Illinois to Milburn and Marion McClelland where she lived her young life along with her older brother, William McClelland, who pre-deceased her in 1986. Early in her adulthood, Doris married Edward L. Younker in 1957 and had two sons, Kenneth and Kurt Younker. With Ed traveling for IBM, they lived in San Jose, California for several years before finally residing in Boca Raton, Florida.

While raising her family in Florida, Doris became employed by BellSouth in the human resource department, eventually assumed a managerial position. In April 1977, Doris married Durwood “Durk” Frazier and together they lived life fully, involving working, spending time with family, and embarking on adventurous travels across the globe.  Following a fulfilling career in management with BellSouth, Doris retired and continued enjoying her friends, family, sons and grandchildren. She became actively involved in St. Paul Lutheran Church as President of Senior Saints, Treasurer of Pricilla Circle, and a member of several church Ministries. Doris also enjoyed her time in the Boca Raton Garden Club attending lectures on horticulture and floral designs. Evenings would be spent at the monthly Moon Party “meetings” with friends on the beach during every full moon event.

Doris is survived by her son Kenneth who is retired and lives in Las Cruses, New Mexico, her grandchildren Lauren, 23, Assistant Editor with Sage Publishing in Washington, DC, Garrett Younker, 21, a student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and her husband of 42-years, Durk Frazier who continues to live in Boca Raton. Sadly, Doris experienced the sudden death of her youngest son, Kurt, in June 2018, leaving a painful scar on her heart for the remainder of her life.

There is one more point of interest to share that includes her historical ancestry that she rarely spoke of except to close family. Doris Isabel McClelland was the daughter of Marion Oak McClelland, daughter of Matilda Sherman who was a sister of General William T. Sherman, the great American Civil War Union Army General. The Sherman family was very prominent in local and national politics in Illinois and New York. They seemed to be natural leaders and decision makers who cared deeply about their family, their community, and their country. It was easy to recognize these very same talents in Doris as she lived her life with similar characteristics. Doris would have hoped that her grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett, would carry on these Sherman family traits into the next generation.
